How the body works – and how we help it work better

The body is made up of 3 systems – the skeletal system (bones), the muscular system (muscles) and the nervous system (nerves). The combination and relationship of these three systems to one another is referred to as the kinetic chain. The idea behind the kinetic chain is that every part of the body, including its muscles, joints and nerves, must work together (or synergistically) to produce movement. If one system breaks down, the other systems are compromised as well. Reasons for a break in the kinetic chain can include such things to weak muscles, tight muscles, imbalances between one muscle and another, or injury, to name a few. When the three body systems (kinetic chain) fail to function properly together, this creates a loss of balance. The loss of balance causes stress to the body in a predictable sequence and leads to weakness and/or pain in a particular area. Many times these weaknesses lay dormant or occur gradually until the area is traumatized by falling, or by a particular activity such as twisting a knee or ankle, or overuse during exercise. By correcting a few muscles, nerve responses, and skeletal misalignments, the body can function better as a whole and the kinetic chain is restored. To illustrate the kinetic chain, consider how the foot is attached to the lower leg, which attaches to the knee, which attaches to the upper leg, the hip and eventually the back. Because of this kinetic chain relationship, a foot injury can affect any muscle along its kinetic chain, resulting in leg, hip or back pain. When there is a break in the kinetic chain, the body will compensate for the broken link by relying on another muscle or bone to make up for the kinetic chain dysfunction. These compensations can lead to misalignments of the body which over time cause pain or even lead to a secondary injury.

The Therapist

Therapist Aaron Lorenz, Fitness Trainer and Therapist, was trained by John Patterson in SRT and also brings his extensive fitness training to the treatment protocol. He is skilled at looking at the entire body, its movement, and the stress placed on key areas of the body which can lead to a painful condition. He is also able to evaluate what muscles, tendons, and ligaments are most likely to be injured or hamper performance in various activities. Thus, his treatments are preventative as well as corrective. His training allows for a combination of SRT and fitness protocols which provide advanced balance and an enhanced kinetic chain which keeps individuals at optimum levels to perform daily activities, enjoy recreational sports or compete at the highest levels in amateur or professional sports.

Testimonials

“Aaron Lorenz is truly a miracle worker. After enduring a caesarean section to deliver my second child I began to have tremendous lower back pain on a daily basis. I went to a chiropractor several times and nothing seemed to work. At the gym I belong to, a trainer mentioned that someone she knew may be able to help relieve my pain. The trainer said that Aaron fully understands the mechanics and inner workings of the body and how each system relates to the other. I met with Aaron on two different occasions. He explained every aspect of both sessions and potential causes of the pain I had. After only two sessions, my back pain is completely gone! Now I’m able to enjoy caring for my baby pain-free. Aaron Lorenz has a customer for life!”

- Jeanine Cook

“I have been seeing chiropractors since I was seventeen years old due to scoliosis. At age 29, I was in a severe car accident which compounded my back issues. I am now 53 years old and have suffered most of my life with chronic back pain. I have always been an active person and been able to work through the pain up until about the last 10 years. As of late I have suffered with muscle spasms and weak joints. In the last two years I have seen doctors, orthopedists, and even acupuncturists to relieve me of my pain. The only relief I could get was through pain medication, anti-inflammatory, and muscle relaxers. Taking medication is something that I have had to resort to in times of severe pain. But I knew this was not something that I wanted to continue long term.

Everything changed last year when I met Doreen Lorenz at a fitness center who then introduced me to her husband Aaron. Meeting these two individuals has changed my life. They are truly dedicated to helping others live pain free and maintain a fitness level that ensures maximum potential of free movement and strength. Their sincere concern and dedication to help me is something that I have never experienced in a health care professional. My journey to wellness began when Aaron and Doreen drove me to Waco to see John Patterson. He and his team spent three and a half hours working on getting my body balanced. Since then Aaron has continued to work with me. I am now seeing him two days a week. My posture has never been better. I look in the mirror and cannot believe that my back is no longer rounded but straight. My hips are aligned and I am sleeping well. I am even walking differently in my shoes! The last time Aaron worked on me I had immediate relief! My journey is not over, but I know with Aaron working on me to keep me balanced, training me how to care for my body, and teaching me the proper mechanics with exercises it won’t be long until I will be active again with no pain at all. I feel that Aaron has a gift of understanding the mechanics of the human body. With that gift and the training he has gained with John Patterson, I believe he is able to make a difference in lives of others.”

- Mona Lincoln

“I had become very frustrated with exercising because I would always have to stop after about a month because I had so much knee pain. To make a long story short, I started working out with Aaron and he told me we had to get my knee stronger. I feel so good because this is the longest I have worked out on a regular basis since I was in high school. It is so great because if I start to feel any pain anywhere, he can do a couple of adjustments or stretches and I feel good to go again. He has been training me for 9 months now and other than some sore muscles, I can’t believe how pain free I have been.”

Non-Athletes

SRT for Non-Athletes

Who do we treat?

Approximately 80% of our clients are those seeking to either improve their “functional” movement or meet their health and fitness goals. Our main goal is to find the cause of pain and dysfunction and correct it. We routinely assess and treat clients in both categories, helping them restore balance to the body, optimize the movements along the kinetic chain and reach their attainable goals for pain-free movement and fitness.

[single-testimonial id="275"]

Functional Movement

Functional movement refers to the movements that occur in real world situations, or the movements necessary to go about the day. It may include basic movements such as sitting, walking, bending, running, stretching, reaching, etc. Commonly, these movements are used in daily living to get in and out of a car, load the dishwasher or washing machine, bend over to get things off of the floor, or reach for dishes in the cabinet. These movements may be adversely affected after surgery, serious injury or simply due to lack of use and aging. Restoring balance and flexibility to this population is important for improving functional movement and returning to a “normal” way of life. The therapies offered at LTW help identify imbalances that may inhibit the body’s ability to perform normal functional movement and correct the dysfunction so that a return to normal function is reached.

Weekend Warriors & Recreational Sports Enthusiasts

Ever made a New Year’s Resolution to exercise only to stop a few weeks later because of an injury? Or decided to train for a 5K, half marathon or triathlon only to be sidelined by a strain or sprain? LTW can get you back on the road and keep you there. Our therapist is trained to evaluate what muscles, tendons and ligaments are most likely to be injured or hamper performance in various activities. Through the use of SRT and fitness therapies, LTW can treat painful areas so that you can get back to training more quickly, or, can identify potential problems so that you can train to prevent them. The result? Improved performance with reduced downtime and a quicker path to your goal!

Competitive Athletes

Competitive Athletes

We help Professional & Amateur Athletes, Marathon/Triathlon Competitors and Body Builders optimize their performance. Synergy Release Therapy keeps you at the top of your game.

John Youboty, Defense End for Temple College

John Youboty, defensive end at Temple College has worked with Aaron Lorenz to address several nagging injuries to his knee and shoulder, as well as to ensure his body is tuned and ready for training for the 2013 NFL draft.
Faulty biomechanics causes most of the “nagging” injuries that athletes encounter. It causes compensations in their natural motions and reduces their ability to perform at their potential. At times, it can lead to injury. An SRT evaluation can assess an athlete’s biomechanics to determine if they are working properly. Unless a skeletal bone is broken, most injuries are caused by a weakness or “trigger” which, when set in motion, causes a series of compensations which led to the tear in a muscle, tendon, or ligament.
For example, ACL tears are the result of a twisted tibia before the player ever started playing. The trauma simply finished off the weakness in the knee. An evaluation by LTW will identify where there is a flaw in the athlete’s techniques of movement, strength, or speed, it can be corrected to prevent injuries and to make the athlete a much more productive player.

Aaron Lorenz has helped Taylor Moss of OK State to remain productive on the field

Aaron Lorenz works with Taylor Moss of OK State regularly to help him stay productive on the field. They have addressed problems with weak ankles, a groin strain, shoulder pain and a neck stinger.
If injury has already occurred, SRT techniques can help the body heal faster, getting the athlete back in the game sooner than conventional treatments. When an athlete understands the reasons why an injury occurred, it becomes easier to avoid those problems in the future. Dallas Mavericks Mike Jones at Lorenz Total Wellness

Dallas Mavericks point guard Mike James was in constant stiffness in pain all over his body and throughout his knees, ankles and back after 12 years in the NBA. His work with Lorenz Total Wellness has helped him to continue his professional basketball career.

About Synergy Release Therapy

What is Synergy Release Therapy?

Synergy Release Therapy is a method of balancing the skeletal (bone) and muscular (muscle) systems of the body so that they work together without compensation. Synergy Release Therapy (SRT) is different from other treatments because it focuses on finding the “trigger” that caused the body to experience a break in the kinetic chain. Breaks in the kinetic chain cause muscles to become tight and “pull” on other muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons. The SRT method, developed by John Patterson more than 30 years ago, is built on the foundation of specific stretches as well as modern technological instrument therapies to allow the body to heal.

Stretching protocols include isometric stretching (tightening and releasing a muscle without movement) and passive stretching (holding a muscle in a relaxed, specific stretch for a set period of time) to release tightness. By releasing tight muscles and correcting the sequence in which they respond, individuals have better balance, quicker nerve response to muscles and less stress on the skeletal structure. Modern technological instrument protocols include non-invasive treatments with low intensity lasers, Frequency Specific Micro-current and low voltage muscle stimulator therapy which help speed up the healing and corrective process. Because SRT works on all three systems – muscular, skeletal and nervous – the body can return to its proper function.

Who benefits from SRT?

SRT is beneficial for any individual because it restores the body’s balance and removes pain quicker than any other treatment. SRT coupled with fitness therapy and proper nutrition can treat underlying conditions which lead to pain and injury. This means the treatments are both preventive and corrective, making them ideal at any age or activity level. In addition, LTW utilizes the passive and resistive stretching techniques of SRT to address flexibility issues. Loss of flexibility can be a contributing factor in injuries in athletes and the general population. Additionally, it is one of the biggest contributors to falls among the aging population, since flexibility diminishes as we age. Most importantly, the therapies at LTW optimize muscle stimulation which results in better function and improved overall performance – whether for individuals seeking to improve quality of life, recreational exercisers moving towards fitness goals or the athlete looking to get back in the game faster.
